Paradise feels like a desperate attempt by the director to target international awards by sabotaging Sri Lanka's image. He exaggerates crises and ethnic conflicts that don't truly exist, exploiting short-term economic turmoil to stir unnecessary division before global audiences and damage the country's booming tourism industry. How can someone born in Sri Lanka write dialogue calling it a "shitty country"? It's sad to see cinema directors from most nations uplift their countries during struggles, while this one highlights only the negatives.
