If that sounds a bit florid, then you've got the idea. Paint It Black is purple and overcooked, swelling to burst with rococo emotion. It doesn't always hold together but it's too outstanding to be ignored.

I really enjoyed this book when I read it years ago and hoped that a great adaptation would be made. I was disappointed after watching it. They chose the wrong lead for Josie. Just because an actress is a good actress doesn't mean she's the right actress. Casting aside, the movie itself was well directed and the acting itself was pretty good. I would recommend watching it, but don't expect it to be something you will revisit.
