The enduring quality of the people, though characters in a movie, is left to the values of the environment from which they are born and bread. See more 03/17/2021 I saw this film during the height of the recession while I was working in Customer Service and people all around me were losing their jobs to outsourcing. I found absolutely NOTHING funny about this movie at the time. It was just horrible. This isn't event a comment on the actors or anything like that - but the story was just SO out of touch for the time it literally made me see red. It totally made light of the devastating loss Americans faced because of outsourcing and did nothing to improve anyone's perspective on the situation. I don't blame people from India for taking jobs that they also need - but I sure as hell don't want to watch a RomCom about Americans losing everything, but its A OK because Indian people are lovely and have a beautiful country. WTF does that have to do with anything? This dude still has no job - he can't support his new relationship with this girl - he has nothing for him when he goes home. It was all just glossed over and it infuriated me to no end. How someone saws this film and said, Hey! let's make it into a sitcom, Americans will totally love watching a show about how its OK that you lost your job and can't find new work because look - these people are funny, and awww ROMANCE! It just shows how DISCONNECTED people are from what Americans (of ALL backgrounds) were facing at the time. Maybe if I watched it now I would feel differently since outsourcing is SO INGRAINED in our society now. But I sat through this entire film horrified at how casually they addressed someone losing their livelihood and having to train their replacement just to get their severance. (there was outrage over Disney doing this several years ago - except they brought people IN). Because when he goes home he will have nothing, and even less options because if you worked in this field - the jobs were ALL being sent overseas and you had very limited options in what became a VERY competitive field. There are families STILL struggling financially more than 15 years later because of Outsourcing. If I could give this movie negative stars I would.
