A teen gang in rural Oklahoma, the Greasers are perpetually at odds with the Socials, a rival group. When Greasers Ponyboy (C. Thomas Howell) and Johnny (Ralph Macchio) get into a brawl that ends in the death of a Social member, the boys are forced to go into hiding. Soon Ponyboy and Johnny, along with the intense Dallas (Matt Dillon) and their other Greaser buddies, must contend with the consequences of their violent lives. While some Greasers try to achieve redemption, others meet tragic ends.

It is a movie with the heartfelt old-fashioned urgency of a Hollywood film from much further back, with the Brat Pack in this film the equivalent of the Dead End Kids who made Angels With Dirty Faces in the 1930s.

I loved this movie growing up in the 1980's. To see this movie as an adult just wow. The complete novel version is great. The big screen at the movie theater was a awesome experience. Stay Gold!

I think both the book and musical tell the story better, but the movie is good too

I enjoyed the book, but for me the movie lacks that 'spark' that the book has. Some of scenes weren't giving you the feeling you had while reading the book, like the scene where Ponyboy and Johnny were next the fountain. I do recommend watching it though, it's a timeless classic. But if anyone has time, they should also check out the novel.

Synopsis
