Ruby M @RT54788260 Aug 21, 2025 Disappointing. I wanted so much for this movie to be a good movie. So many great actors in this classic movie. The actor, Robert Trebor, looked, sounded and his mannerisms were just like David Berkowitz’. However, he had a limited role in this movie. The problem is, there was no excitement. There was no suspense. There were no thrills. It was very long and drawn out. I was surprised how boring this movie was, considering the background of this case. They had so much to work with but didn’t expound. Very disappointing. See more Apr 19, 2022 One of only 3 movies ever made (As of this date) about the infamous Son of Sam murders & shootings,& by far the most accurate & well done of the 3. The story takes place in Winter, while most of the shootings took place in Summer ("Summer of Sam"). I never got why they did that, other than it being "Based" on a true story. Anyway, the acting is absolutely top notch, with the exception being Robert Trebor as David Berkowitz, whose over the top, weirdo interpretation is not at all what the real Son of Sam was like. He clearly was looking for a nomination at awards time & also very clearly was acting, not doing any research or even investigating what Berkowitz was really like. He ass-u-me-d. He obviously felt a Serial killer must also be a weirdo, & he so overdid it that you'll react as I did, with big lol's almost every time he opens his mouth. And the grin, the smiling, the laughing-all just so pathetically played by a so-called actor I had never seen in anything else before, & since watching this when it first aired as a tv movie. Martin Sheen on the other hand was his always brilliant self, nailing a Detective role as he always has. Everyone else was just perfect in their roles, from Hector Elizondo as a Priest & close friend of Sheen's "Detective Ed Zigo," to the actress who plays Sheen's daughter & the one who plays his wife, & the actor who plays his partner. All in all this was a good enough thriller to have deservedly been shown on big screens in theaters of the time. Seems like they didn't want this to go mainstream on that level for reasons I can understand. Lastly, if you're interested in seeing this well told story, I highly recommend it to anyone & evryone, especially those like me who lived in the area & times of the worst mass murder from a Serial killer, & the scariest Summer ever in NYC & the surrounding boroughs up until 9/11 took over that reality, in a much different way.
