Old School is very entertaining because the midlife-fraternity premise is such a simple, funny hook. Older guys starting a fraternity gives the movie plenty of room for ridiculous situations, arrested-development humor, and escalating bad decisions. Will Ferrell is the best thing about the movie as Frank the Tank. His collapse from normal married guy into drunken party legend gives Old School its biggest laughs, especially because Ferrell plays Frank’s chaos with total commitment. The chemistry between Ferrell, Luke Wilson, and Vince Vaughn also works well. Wilson brings the more grounded everyman energy, Vaughn supplies fast-talking confidence, and Ferrell gives the movie its wildest comic spark. The story is thin and some jokes are very early-2000s, but the streaking, pledge events, wedding band, and Frank’s drunken chaos make Old School funny, quotable, and easy to rewatch.
