In the 1940s South Carolina, mill worker Noah Calhoun (Ryan Gosling) and rich girl Allie (Rachel McAdams) are desperately in love. But her parents don't approve. When Noah goes off to serve in World War II, it seems to mark the end of their love affair. In the interim, Allie becomes involved with another man (James Marsden). But when Noah returns to their small town years later, on the cusp of Allie's marriage, it soon becomes clear that their romance is anything but over.

A tearjerker? It'll make you cry but it's not manipulative. A chick flick? It's just an inspiring love story that will touch your heart and make you believe true love can last a lifetime and conquer all. Isn't that what we all want?

This movie made me cry and as a grown man, when a movie makes you cry tears of sadness and not disappointment it deserves at least 4 stars. The Notebook is a beautiful movie. The historical setting is so well captured and one of the most overlooked aspects of the film. The acting is actually quite impressive and realistic despite the plot being a little cliché. The characters come of as very human and at no part during the runtime do I find myself getting bored. Looking deeper, The Notebook pulls at your heartstrings in a beautiful way that may be a little redundant. But this redundancy can be overlooked when so many aspects of this movie are incredible and unmatched in the romance genre.

Synopsis
