Mr. Popper (Jim Carrey) is a successful real estate developer in Manhattan. He lives in a posh apartment on Park Avenue, and is on the fast track to a partnership in a prestigious company. However, his life changes radically when he receives a final gift from his late father -- a live penguin, which is soon joined by five more penguins. The birds' antics soon win over Mr. Popper, and as he bonds with the penguins, his chilly relationship with his ex-wife (Carla Gugino) and kids begins to thaw.

Critics Consensus

Blandly inoffensive and thoroughly predictable, Mr. Popper's Penguins could have been worse -- but it should have been better.

As family entertainment for the summer holidays it isn't bad, and Britain's Ophelia Lovibond does well as Popper's perky assistant, though Carrey is fundamentally subdued. Go to Full Review

Blu B 10h I can't believe Penguin films are an actual subgenre of films like submarine movies and nun films. And the quality of it overall is what you'd expect...and this is no different. At least it's not insane like Happy Feet. This is like if Hallmark made a penguin movie. It's so predictable, one note, no stakes, and surface level stuff. The acting isn't good but granted it's not like anyone is given anything to work with. Carrey I can't tell if he's trying at times or is sleepwalking through this. Regardless this is one of the weakest performances I've seen from him. He's one note, feels like he doesn't care quite a bit, and only in very tiny spurts does the Carrey persona we know pop up. Everyone else man is super forgettable. The cinematography is very basic stuff, subpar penguin CGI, terrible toilet humor, and just flat humor the rest of the time and just subpar also. The music is ok, boring generic, and forgettable. Everything else is subpar also. Once the penguins arrive it feels li See more Jessica @movieratermaster4182 Jan 11 I enjoyed this movie when I watched it with my family. It was really worth a watch & there were so many funny scenes when watching 😂. If you had to ask me about this movie, I'd definitely recommend it.
