The point of this movie is lost somewhere in the rambling story lines of children running wild, a drunk servant, and lizards on the loose. In the end I am baffled by what the message is supposed to be. See more 06/14/2008 Even with all the ominous foreshadowing, the sudden transition of this movie from the playful antics of two cousins to the ceremonial gang rape of a preteen girl is a terrible, sickening shock, all the more so because of the impassionate routine with which it is carried out and the paradox of parents who love and baby their unknowing daughter while simultaneously orchestrating and celebrating the event. The depth of the music pulsing in the background and the excellent acting of the young children gives the movie a beauty and profundity appropriate to its subject matter. It was hard to watch ... but it raises awareness that, not only in India, but all over the world, women face situations we can't even think of. See more 01/07/2008 This movie is not for sensitive people; it is quite hard to watch and shows a terrible aspect of ancient practices in rich cultures like India. Again, this is not a documentary, so as long as you don't take it like gospel, it can be a very interesting experience. The acting is excellent! The dialogues are also very thought-provoking, as the whole movie is. I think cinematographically it is a wonderful piece, but it is always delicate to expose these issues in movies.
