In a remote village in Central Europe, a nobleman's body is found drained of its blood and two punctures on his neck--the Mark of the Vampire. An ancient terror, a horror that won't die haunts the village: the long undead Count Mora (Bela Lugosi) and his daughter Luna (Carroll Borland), rule the night. But the vampires have not fed on the people of the village for a very long time. Now, with the help of an expert in the occult, Professor Zelen (Lionel Barrymore) and a local Baron (Jean Hersholt), police inspector Neumann (Lionel Atwill) unearth a mystery far stranger and more terrifying than anyone could have imagined!

I never got a feel for this movie. Not enough action. I love the one special-effect of Luna floating to the floor. I don't understand how this movie received such high ratings

A rather silly but fun play on the Dracula story which takes an unexpected turn at the end. Don't expect much Lugosi in this but Lionel Barrymore and Lionel Atwill as would be vampire hunters are both excellent. It's not a great film but anybody who enjoys this era of Hollywood should be amused by it.

I think that's the only time I've ever seen a terrible Lionel Barrymore performance. Spoiler Alert: That ending. Ugh. You'll be mad you've wasted an hour on a ridiculous murder mystery.
