Like, I can see how you can efficiently set moods through visuals and sound, just don't use all that mood overkill to gaslight the audience into thinking the movie is deep or good. In terms of mood and build-up, less can be more unless the script is speeding, man. The opposite should be said about the script, a couple more pages of depth wouldn't have hurt. It would be one of my favorite art house short films if it were 40 minutes long. 40 minutes of this intensity without all of the linger and I'm invested in seeing what else this director has to offer next, but just as the main antagonist in this movie, this movie thinks it's cooler than it is. If you're 18 and experimenting with psychedelics, give it a spin though, you'll love it. Just don't take any of it seriously. You'll even enjoy the out of place mood breaking animated bits. Props to Nic though, nobody else would have made his part work. Creatively and painstakingly filmed, Nicolas Cage is perfectly cast in this surreal, visually rich, psychedelic, DMT, ketamine and cocaine fueled masterpiece. Each scene is made with a certain drugs effects prevalent until the end when revenge boils over to an unbelievable climax. 'MANDY' Brief synopsis; Red & Mandy are very much in love. After Mandy is spotted by a radical, acid fuelled religious freak, Mandy is taken to recruit but burned in front ov Red. From then on, Red (Cage) has nothing on his mind but straight up revenge in an acid soaked, very psychedelic fashion. Outrageous and visually striking. Wonderfully filmed and great cinematography. Quality performance from Nicolas Cage. Some very entertaining practical gore effects. Riddled with sacrilege and satanic overtones. So over thee top it's very enjoyable. Only issue with this was it took 25mins to kick into action. After that though... Quality. Also nice to see a high level nudity warning that ends up being male nudity. That's not usually thee case.
