What to Know

Critics Consensus

The Lost World demonstrates how far CG effects have come in the four years since Jurassic Park; unfortunately, it also proves how difficult it can be to put together a truly compelling sequel.

Like the original, the sequel is uneven, sometimes moving in fits and starts. But the new film never really loses its momentum, and its big set pieces deliver. Go to Full Review

There's not much story or character development here, but you don't need that when you've got dynamite dinosaurs of all stripes and appetites. Go to Full Review

It's sheer claptrap, but it's lively claptrap, with Spielberg skillfully reaching into his bag of shameless tricks to reinvent the chase movie and the cliffhanger. Go to Full Review

Visually and thematically darker than its precursor, The Lost World is canned entertainment. It lacks the wonder of the first film, perhaps an inevitability. What's more of a letdown is that it lacks the first one's heart. Go to Full Review

The Lost World: Jurassic Park, like its predecessor, combines gee-whiz effects with old-fashioned shots to the nervous system. Ooh and ahh all you want -- just get ready for the running and screaming. Go to Full Review

You literally see these creatures breathe, and the performances are so wonderful that it's hard to believe that the prehistoric brutes really are computer-generated. Go to Full Review

Kyle H. @Kylebh2015 2d Not the classic + weird plot = bad movie I did like stegosaurus See more Enrique R @EnriqueRamosLovesMovies Jan 18 The Lost World: Jurassic Park, this is one of my favorite movies of all time. It is so incredible and action packed and so adventurous. Still, the first one is better than this one. This movie, to me, is one of my favorite movie sequels. Alongside with The Dark Knight and Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back. The story, the plot, the dinosaurs have good CGI like the first movie. Easily, Dr. Ian Malcolm is my favorite character out of the franchise. The characters are good and entertaining. Anyways, I give The Lost World: Jurassic Park a 10/10 or 5/5 stars. See more Kelcy D @JPTFFan2005 Jan 16 This the second best Spielberg's JP sequel. Sure it's not as good as the first. But it's still better than the others. This is my favorite Jurassic Park sequel. See more ReubenGames @ReubenKReviews Jan 6 Controversial take, but this is my favourite movie of all time, so I will give a great and honest review; The Lost World Jurassic Park stands as the greatest movie ever made because it understands scale consequence and restraint better than any film before or since. It treats dinosaurs not as mascots but as disasters walking on two legs and it never forgets that humans are the problem not the victims. Spielberg shoots fear through distance silence and implication letting long grass fog and rain do the work instead of noise. The film refuses comfort by killing heroes humiliating villains and ending without victory. Its themes of exploitation corporate arrogance and nature pushing back feel timeless and brutally honest. San Diego is not spectacle it is punishment. The score cinematography and pacing create a film that feels dangerous cold and alive. It does not want to entertain you it wants to warn you and that is why it endures. See more Severi L Dec 29 While not being as good as the original JP, The Lost World still provides a great dino-action movie with some of the most memorable scenes of the entire movie series. See more Joel C @Joelcas1613 Dec 28 Three and a half stars, I guess it's worth a watch. I mean it's alright, it's not a bad or horrible film, it's just better than okay. Watch if you can but I would rather the first or the third Jurassic Park. 3 and a half stars. God bless. See more Read all reviews
