See more Brett H @Cackermander Jul 3 Jean Reno's character is a mix of compassion, abstraction, humour, pathos rolled into a cold-blooded killer, a complete representation. A 12/13 year old Natalie Portman gives an amazingly mature performance that holds one captive with her ability to make it all so real. Gary Oldman gives his character that dead-eye look of a psychopath that, although over-the-top, is balanced with credibility. It is well-paced with a plot quite unlike other films of this genre, there are touching moments as both the main characters learn about life and themselves, getting touch with facets of themselves as they shared a short, yet expansive journey, in just a part of New York. It explores the world through the eyes of both the Reno and Natalie characters, opening up the awkward and enjoyable interactions of a man and a child within the framework of violence and corruption. I've watched it many times and still find it fresh and attention grabbing. Luc Besson has produced a real gem of a movie. See more Skipper G @RT79925880 Jun 30 This is a disturbing movie. Not because of the violence, blood, or killing. It’s disturbing because of the sexualization of a little girl, the attempt to strip a child of innocence and turn her into a murdered, and the normalization of such evil, inhumane ideas.
