In this animated musical, the villainous King Haggard (Christopher Lee) plots to destroy all the world's unicorns. When a young unicorn (Mia Farrow) learns that she's in danger and that she may soon be the last of her kind, she leaves the safety of her protected forest and enlists the help of Schmendrick (Alan Arkin), a gentle, albeit clumsy, sorcerer. Together, they embark on a long and dangerous journey with one goal: to defeat Haggard and save the unicorns from extinction.

The heavy-hoofed red bull and an interlude in which the unicorn is conscripted into a traveling circus alongside a harpy are so visually striking and wordlessly monstrous that they’ll lodge themselves in your gray matter forever.

What a wonderful movie this is! The Last Unicorn hears that all of the other Unicorns have vanished into the sea at the end of the world. Along her trek she discovers the Smedwick (sp?) the Magician and Molly Grue (sp?) the local cook for Robin Hood and his not so merry group of men! Anyway she is turned into a girl who is now mortal and slowly growing old! But suffice that all ends well when she forces the Red Bull into the sea and all the Unicorns escape from the sea! The only bad thing about this movie, is she has regrets, because she is the only Unicorn too fall in love with the prince.

It's a good movie, solid plot, magical, good graphics for when it was made, and defiantly interesting. It is a little slow in some parts, but a good movie nonetheless. Defiantly recommend for any unicorn lover.

This movie is so beautiful. It brings tears to my eyes to rewatch it, remembering when I saw it for the first time at a younger age. I can't deny it sparks a sort of "magical" feeling in my heart. I met a girl years ago - Sara. We were going to watch it together, but we lost touch before we could. I miss her, and I hope to cross paths again so maybe we can watch this together. Miss you, Sara! Watching this again reminded me of a friendship that sadly drifted through distance and loss of communication, similar to the beautiful unicorn separated from her friends. The power of this movie carries on!

After The Hobbit, Rankin and Bass teamed up with Topcraft once again to deliver a fantasy book adaptation with wildly dreamy imagery, but lifeless animation (though the talking skeleton is actually impressive), and tons more terrible dialogue.

Synopsis
