Nekrips R @RT10725321 Sep 13, 2026 A naive, childish fairy tale about good versus evil from the early ’80s. The special effects are pretty good for a movie like this. The fight scenes look clunky. The dialogue is simple, sometimes even too simple. Some scenes are just plain silly and don’t make any sense. Why on earth did the cyclops (spoiler) first decide to stay behind and die alone, only to suddenly return to help the team in the final battle? He was supposed to know exactly how he was going to die. The guys with the energy rifles here shoot worse than the stormtroopers in Star Wars. Couldn’t the Beast’s mighty army really handle a dozen mercenaries? The main antagonist’s fortress defenses are, to put it mildly, very poor. Why didn’t the main character use his fireballs right at the beginning, if his magic allowed him to cast fire? Overall, it’s a very simplistic fantasy film that might only appeal to very young viewers or fans of retro fantasy. Just to remind you, Conan the Barbarian came out just a year earlier. Lasers. Monsters. Sword fights.. with lasers. Big stupid armor. A demon-thing. An enormous low-budget spiderweb. A magical weapon that solves the Plot. A big one-eyed dumbass.. This movie has it all. Everything you need and you're looking for. If you are a God damn nerd, you'll love it. If you watch anything, you'll love it. If you are bored as f*$# on a weekend night because you're a total loser in life and with women you'll love it. (Your would-be girlfriend would probably hate it). See more Zach F @kenpowerz Apr 10, 2026 Impeccably wise/funny one liners, plentiful plot armor, mediocre acting, impressive stunts, more unexplained plot armor, perfect pacing of introducing the antagonist, and beautiful scenery. All that I can ask from an 80s Dark Fantasy film, as Ergo says “Not impressive, but adequate”. The build up to The Beast is lovely accompanied by an interesting adventure. A improved final battle with the beast and going more in depth about the pit stops of the journey would have fixed a lot. In all reality it’s an incredible film if you aren’t pretentious and are fine with a half decent script and a 80s budget movie.
