Chase S @RT50642065 Jul 21 I get that "Host" was a neat pandemic-era experiment: shot remotely, actors filming themselves, all that. But novelty doesn't equal quality. At barely 55 minutes it still feels padded, the "found footage via video call" gimmick wears thin after the first ten minutes, and the scares are the same tired jolts we've seen in a hundred other found-footage horror flicks, just squeezed into little webcam boxes. The characters are paper-thin. I couldn't tell you a single one's personality beyond "screams at laptop." I wanted to like the resourcefulness behind making this during lockdown, but ambition isn't the same as execution. Skip it and rewatch literally any other haunted house movie instead. It does not deserve to be considered a highly rated scary movie and it is very disappointing. I say skip it and watch Unfriended instead or heck, even Paranormal Activity. This is Netflix swill.
