How does Hook have a lower rating than all the other live action Peter Pan movies? The 2023 one? Horrendous in every way. Compared to Hook? And then growing up, but having to face someone who took his children. It is a silly and simplistic view of parenting while being a busy executive. However, it focuses on fatherhood and "believing." Hook understands something deeply moving about growing older: adulthood can make us forget who we once were, but that child is never completely gone. The movie is funny, emotional and full of wonder, with a warmth that modern family films rarely capture. John Williams’s soundtrack is simply magnificent. It gives every scene a sense of magic, scale and nostalgia, while the quieter moments carry sadness and tenderness. The music does not merely accompany the film, it gives Neverland its soul. Dustin Hoffman is still the finest Captain Hook ever put on screen. He is theatrical, menacing, vain, hilarious and oddly vulnerable, often within the same scene. He never plays Hook as a simple villain, but as a wounded and wonderfully entertaining character. Every gesture, pause and line feels perfectly judged. Hook is colourful, sincere and unforgettable.
