What to Know

Critics Consensus

Though Home on the Range is likeable and may keep young children diverted, it's one of Disney's more middling titles, with garish visuals and a dull plot.

Not a classic, but cute and fun for families. Go to Full Review

Assorted movie in-jokes should keep parents tolerably entertained, and Alan Menken's songs mercifully favor western swing over the expected twang pop. Go to Full Review

One mustn't carp too much; the film unfolds at a sprightly pace, making it fair fodder for undemanding sproglets. Go to Full Review

Outside of its animation, Home on the Range is a painful miss that shows Disney at its absolute lowest. Go to Full Review

The feeling the movie leaves is of wanting to embrace a lot but actually covering very little. [Full Review in Spanish] Go to Full Review

TheMovieSearch R @TheMovieSearch 5d Home on the Range is a cute Disney film, but it never reaches the magic of the studio’s best animated classics. While it has its charming moments, it struggles to stand out, especially when compared to the Disney Renaissance films and the strong releases that surrounded it. The animation is colorful, and the screenplay is decent enough to keep the story moving, but it lacks the emotional depth and memorable storytelling that define Disney’s strongest work. My biggest issue is Roseanne Barr as the lead. Her voice feels too harsh and overpowering for a main character, and I think she would have worked much better in a supporting role. That choice makes it harder to connect with the character throughout the film. Overall, I understand why Home on the Range has received mixed reactions over the years. It’s an enjoyable enough watch with some fun moments, but it’s also one of Disney’s weaker animated features and not one I revisit often. But I thought it was a fun western adventure with a cartoony look and funny characters. See more Harry H. @Movies10 May 19 Definitely low tier Disney.
