From Academy Award® nominated director Jan Komasa, HEEL is a twisted thriller that follows 19-year-old hooligan Tommy (Anson Boon), who revels in a life of drugs, parties, and violence. One night, on a bender with his reckless friends, he becomes separated from the group and is abducted by an unknown figure (Golden Globe® winner Stephen Graham). Though he is no stranger to inflicting violence, he is enraged and horrified when he wakes to find himself chained in the basement of the isolated suburban family home of Chris (Graham), his wife Kathryn (Academy Award® nominee Andrea Riseborough), and their young son Jonathan (Kit Rakusen). The family sets out to reform Tommy's unruly behavior, forcing him to comply with their relentless mind games or seek escape at any cost.

This is a curious, unsettling picture, with parallels to A Clockwork Orange: in this meeting of monsters, Chris is every bit as repellent and inhuman as Tommy at his rampaging worst.

The characters are intriguing and the story raises thought-provoking questions about morality, but based on the initial setup I expected the story to escalate or become more unhinged. The most surprising thing about it for me was how tame it was.

Heel does something kind of twisted: it starts by showing you an insufferable kid, puts him in the hands of a completely dysfunctional family, and after a while makes you think, "maybe this is actually working." And that’s exactly where the movie finds its best idea. Tommy starts to change, the house begins to feel less like a prison and more like a home, the bonds start to form, and suddenly you have to remind yourself that all of this began with kidnapping, violence, and a chain around his neck. Jan Komasa plays really well with that discomfort and never gives you an easy answer about who’s right. The problem is that the movie could have been much darker and more disturbing than it chooses to be, especially considering everything it hints at about that family. Still, when you realize you’re almost rooting for them to stay together, it’s a sign that something in there worked very well.

This one sent me on a psychological rollercoaster..I usually know what's gonna happen in every movie but this one was very unexpected for all the right reasons. I didn't want to like this because the concept was heavy and disturbing but overall Jan Komasa did an amazing job with this film. Extremely thought provoking and moving I'm so many ways. I also understand why some may not have understood or liked this movie because normal people who think "why the hell would he want to go back." But I get what the director was conveying in this film. Very good, a hidden gem I will never forget! Simply amazing film.

Decent film, somehow manages to keep your attention. This movie is basically a representation of stockholm syndrome. If youre looking for something different and strange, Id recommend this.
