Critics Consensus

An anemic crime saga punctuated with bravura action sequences, Havoc may feel like a retread of director Gareth Evans' past glories but, for audiences addicted to his balletic style, the formula still rips.

Evans may wade into deeper waters here — grappling with morality, loyalty, and personal failure — but he never loses sight of what he does best: delivering chaos with craft. A brutal reminder of why Evans remains one of action cinema’s most vital voices. Go to Full Review

To reach its apotheotic, five-star display of action wrapped in the aura of masters like John Woo or Johnnie To, a price has to be paid in the form of technical — and, to a lesser extent, narrative — excesses. Go to Full Review

jonas W. @peakmoelester 1d Best movie out here story is just on point See more Juleigh B @JulezJB Jan 20 If you are looking for a movie where you can't keep up with the body count, this is it. The over use of splattered, extremely red blood becomes comical. Not to mention the 100s of rounds of bullets that fly everywhere but somehow miss most of the main characters And let's not forget the knives machetes and butchers cleaver. Set in a make believe US city but filmed in Wales lol See more ariana @arinara Jan 19 I thought that this movie was literal havoc haha. It was not bad at all, but I would say that the story line is a little confusing. I swear, like 2 minutes in and 20 characters were introduced (maybe over exaggerated..). If you don't like action movies and struggle with keeping a plot this would definitely not be for you. I was pleased with how well the action was and it kept me on my toes for sure. There were many funny scenes even though I know they weren't supposed to be. The slow mo scenes of people dying were especially funny. I would recommend this, but once again the plot was a bit confusing and I had to use wikipedia to help me understand what was going on. You probably won't understand what is happening unless you finish all the way end so you might not enjoy the movie as much. See more Mate P @matepolcz Jan 18 Havoc has basic story and characters, but insane camera work. The story is predictable, but it has some likeable characters. They are also stereotypical, but I really liked Ellie, while Lawrence and Walker are pretty good too. The dialogues aren't quotable or anything, but I loved the ending and the last piece of dialogue. The directing is mixed, but I liked it mostly. The emotional scenes didn't work for me, but the emphasis was on action, which was phenomenal. The cinematography has good lighting, great framing and insane camera movement. The editing is good, especially the action stuff. On the other hand CGI is overused in my opinion. They wanted to do some insane shots, which would've been incredibly hard to do practically, so I understand why they used it, but it was very apparent. The cast is good and the acting sells the stakes. Havoc is mixed for me, if the emotional part of it worked more, I would've really liked this one.
