It actually makes the creature a scary monster again, like the original 1954 movie, which it stopped being for nearly three decades. This movie makes you feel the fear that the characters feel, by keeping you with them when they are stuck in a building with Godzilla just outside, it makes you feel absolute dread for them, and even though they are not the best characters in a Godzilla movie, the movie still makes you feel for them, if that makes sense. And although the movie gets a little silly at the end, I can extend my suspension of disbelief, because it feels so awesome to see actual miniature work instead of just CG. Fantastic movie overall. Its a film that gives the King of the Monsters his just due respect. A film that still shows that Godzilla is still a force to be recognized. And this film does not hold back. It let's us know that not only is Godzilla is not just powerful...but a tragic figure. Still a banger of a film from start to finish. And with an ending that will leave you in tears. The film reintroduces nuclear themes and a dark atmosphere, while human characters and political tension play a central role as Japan resists foreign pressure to use nuclear weapons. With Koji Hashimoto’s direction, Godzilla is redesigned to be more imposing and less anthropomorphic, and Teruyoshi Nakano’s special effects—including animatronics and night-time attacks on Tokyo—deliver memorable, visually striking scenes. At 80 meters tall, Godzilla’s return in 1984 set a strong foundation for a new era of the franchise and has aged remarkably well.
