Mary S @Downunder Nov 16 I watched the movie and reflected on the story line. The story line is centred around to two teenager both from dysfunctional family life in tthe early 1960s in Britain. Observing the characters they all used their negativity to create this constant dark sky . Which impacted on the teenagers view of THEIR WORLD. There were many adults in the room WHO NEVER ACCEPTED being their responsibilities, the father of Ginger was a NARCASSISS, a man who was self centred predator. By far her best role over The Great. Only thing I would nitpick about is the fact that Rosa hasn't really got a big role in this and I would of liked to seen a bit more of her throughout. See more John O 06/16/2021 Whatever does not kill you makes you stronger? The frog and the scorpion, who can be no other than destructive and self-destructive? Hiroshima, mon amour -- as the backdrop is the early '60s and the threat of nuclear annihilation? It starts as an almost innocuous coming of age bit, with two smart Brit teens, friends forever, obsessing on boys and parties, even hitchhiking, all bras and clothes and makeup, and absent or distant parents. Then boom, it's a parade of the iconoclastic, as the amazingly young for that much skill Elle fights the inner battle of betrayal by the friend and her once-in-prison-for-pacifism dad whom she calls by his first name and who sees family and God as passe. The cast is to die for, Elle, Christina, Allesandro, Oliver, Spall, Annette, and newcomer Englert, all in one climactic scene near the end. Elle's relationship with her best friend ended over an affair with Elle's dad. As Elle processes the world revealing itself to her more and more, and gets more hurt and sad, a couple of scenes show her reaction with just one tear rolling down her face. But she tries to adjust through her poetry. Her friend begs her forgiveness. Her poem says the main thing is you survive, and there is nothing to forgive her for (the scorpion had to kill the frog?), yet she ends the poem, but I forgive you anyway. Elle's anti-bomb work helps her stand for the human race and the planet. The deeper questions arise from relationships, betrayals, a suicide attempt, and what we feel and do about it. Very well done. Elle is such a star, and this was nine years ago. See more r 9 09/07/2020 Very finely acted, but 'Ginger & Rosa' ends up being something that wouldn't look out of place on 'EastEnders'. I'll start with the positives. The cast are terrific. Elle Fanning (Ginger) and Alice Englert (Rosa) are very good together, both impress. Alessandro Nivola gives a strong performance also. Away from them, I really enjoy how it's all filmed visually. The plot, meanwhile, isn't the greatest. It builds up fairly nicely, though unfortunately concludes in more soap opera fashion; just against a deafening backdrop of politics and war. It isn't anything particularly bad, I did enjoy it, but it definitely cheapens events a tad; especially as it feels like the filmmakers are aiming for something more deeper in meaning.
