Alan @BleakPhilosopher Jan 11 I loved Greta Gerwig's performance and this is almost a one-woman show. While it's funny from time to time, the overall effect is sadness as Frances struggles to make her life work. I really identified with the character the first time I saw it, maybe 30 years ago, this time not so much but a really enjoyable film that seems very timely today. It's about dumb people who think they're smart. Pretentious but acting down to earth. Uptight but casual. Penniless but vacation in France. It's what you would imagine how SNL audience live and how they face challenges and eventually work it out. It's nowhere near real America but it still works within its own world.
