As a transplant from Boston, teenager Ren MacCormack gets a big dose of culture shock when he moves to a small Southern town called Bomont. Sadly, at least as far as I am concerned this new Footloose doesn't dance to a different enough beat to make it something I'd want to cut loose to.

The dancing sequences are terrific - even the line-dancing is tolerable - but what really sells this quality reboot are the dashes of reality missing from the original.

It fails to offer a sufficiently fresh take on the original work; the 2011 version of Footloose, while not a radical departure, also lacks truly footloosing highlights. Moreover, comparing the creative team behind this version to Kevin Bacon reveals a significant gap in caliber.

Haven't seen the original, but this version felt like it could've been an email. I was frustrated by the lack of plot development and character development that didn't happen until nearly the end of the film. Felt like a bunch of teenage sexcapades and rebellion to make what point? The five killed teens were barely mentioned at all despite the fact that it was tragic. Everyone was insufferable for the majority of the film. I struggled to root for anyone except Miles Teller's character.
