Longtime salesman Nick Halsey (Will Ferrell) has seen better days. No longer at the top of his game, Nick, an alcoholic, loses his job for showing up drunk one too many times. As a new-found adorer of mumblecore, this movie lit the lights for me after last week discovering that my favorite mumblecore director (who I'd seen all the films of) had died earlier this year. I was definitely seeking to quench the thirst of mumblecore. I was able to pirate this and Funny Ha Ha, so I'll be watching that one next. From my understanding, pre-mumblecore consisted of things like My Dinner with Andre and Clerks, and post-mumblecore was mostly by my (previous) favorite director, Jeff Baena and Mark Duplass. Well, I've (of course) always love Will Ferrell. My first name is Will, so we share that in common. But Christopher Jordan Wallace was also in one of my top 10 favorite TV shows of all time, the Scream series (season 3). Well, I had just finished watching the amazing new Tim Robinson movie today, Friendship, and this was definitely the best next movie I could have watched. Truly enjoyed. I wish this director made new movies. Eyes watered. Great movie. As a Business Master degree recipient and career salesperson, this really hit home.
