On the morning of May 10, 1996, climbers (Jason Clarke, Josh Brolin) from two expeditions start their final ascent toward the summit of Mount Everest, the highest point on Earth. With little warning, a violent storm strikes the mountain, engulfing the adventurers in one of the fiercest blizzards ever encountered by man. Challenged by the harshest conditions imaginable, the teams must endure blistering winds and freezing temperatures in an epic battle to survive against nearly impossible odds.

It's unlikely to have the massive success of Gravity, as it doesn't have quite the uplifting ending of that film (though God knows it tries), but it's worth watching just to see the places human beings should probably never tread.

It isn’t a brash, bombastic popcorn flick. It isn’t a by-the-books ‘real events’ movie. Sure, it has its big name ensemble cast and its share of visual ‘wow’ moments. But at the same time it felt small, concise, and restrained.

Good movie. 8.2/10. Tells the tale well, with a very good amount of suspense and intense mountain scenes. The movie excels in the inevitable build-up to the tragedy that unfolds. The descend down the mountain is fast, furious, and deadly. Wish we learned a bit more about the characters, however.

Everest is a respectful and grounded retelling of the 1996 disaster, choosing to focus on the people rather than turning the tragedy into a spectacle. Director Baltasar Kormákur captures both the beauty and brutality of the mountain, with breathtaking cinematography and convincing visual effects that constantly remind you how unforgiving the environment really is. The ensemble cast is excellent. Jason Clarke, Jake Gyllenhaal, Josh Brolin, John Hawkes, Emily Watson, Keira Knightley, and Robin Wright all deliver believable, understated performances that make the climbers feel like ordinary people facing extraordinary circumstances. The downside is that with so many characters, not everyone receives enough development for every emotional moment to hit as hard as it should. The deliberate first act also takes a while to build momentum, but once the storm arrives, the tension rarely lets up. It's a moving survival drama that respects both the people and the true story behind the tragedy.

Brilliant! Very well written and directed. Amazing cinematography and visually stunning. As close as possible to those two tragic days in 1996. Stellar cast all excels in character convincingly., impossible to single one out, they all shine in their respective roles. Lots of action, suspense, thrills, spills, miscalculations, emotion, intrigue, savage nature, grit and human resilience. Entertaining and engaging
