This updated adaptation of the classic fairytale tells the story of Danielle, a vibrant young woman who is forced into servitude after the death of her father. Danielle's stepmother Rodmilla is a heartless woman who forces Danielle to do the cooking and cleaning, while she tries to marry off her own two daughters. We saw this on the big screen for the first time. We LOVED it. It was so well done with beautiful sets/scenery and marvelous acting from all concerned. Barrymore carried off her part so well as did the actor playing the Prince. They worked so well today. The dialogue was witty and intelligent. One surprise was Melanie Lynskey. Although she was in the background as the second step sister, she played her part so well as you see her personality emerge throughout the film. If you've never seen it do. If you have, see it again!

Ever After is among the best retellings of the classic Cinderella story, arguably even better than the original fairytale itself. Laced with wholesome scenes, a sharp script, witty humor, and stunning performances (most notably from Anjelica Huston and Megan Dodds, and Drew Barrymore), Ever After is a childhood favorite of mine, and I have seen it easily over a hundred times. It is an emotional, entertaining, and enchanting romance that I would recommend to anyone and everyone, especially fans of Cinderella and romance. Personally, I love how the fantastical elements were removed from the story in this film, as it humanized the story and gave it a realistic touch. I also liked the historical incorporation of Leonardo da Vinci. It is a beautiful twist to an already beautiful story. Thank you for reading my review! God bless you.

Simplistic and very sweet, conventional to a fault. Despite the high production values, it doesn’t hold up visually almost 30 years later. It’s crying out to be remastered. The skin tones looked monochromatic, and the costumes, hair, and jewelry did not show enough fine detail. Even though it was streaming in 4K, the image never really sparkled the way it should have.
