TheFilmCritics @TheFilmCritics Sep 12, 2026 While some comedies are gloriously dumb; Dude, Where’s My Car? is mostly just dumb, though it occasionally finds the right rhythm. Ashton Kutcher and Seann William Scott are the main highlight as the clueless duo, and bits of humor like the endlessly repeated "And then?" exchange reveal flashes of inspired absurdity. Unfortunately, those moments are buried beneath predictable jokes, juvenile writing, stiff supporting performances, and exaggerated acting that often feels cartoonish rather than funny. The film’s early-2000s sensibility has also aged poorly, though that gives it a curious time-capsule quality to peek into the "edgy" humor that was a product of its time. Its brisk runtime helps limit the damage, and its sheer commitment to its niche demographic is oddly admirable. For audiences attuned to that particular wavelength, there is some guilty fun here to unpack; everyone else may find the ride considerably less memorable.
