In an effort to protect their three children from the corrupting influence of the outside world, a Greek couple transforms their home into a gated compound of cultural deprivation and strict rules of behavior. But children cannot remain innocent forever. When the father brings home a young woman to satisfy his son's sexual urges, the family's engineered "reality" begins to crumble, with devastating consequences. Like the haunting, dystopic visions of Michael Haneke and Gaspar Noé, Dogtooth punctuates its compelling drama with moments of shocking violence, creating a biting social satire that is as profound as it is provocative.

This is the second feature for Lanthimos, and it's a leap from his well-received debut Kinetta. He skilfully doles out tantalizing pieces of information, keeping the viewer in a constant state of suspense and wonder.

Sometimes it’s so nonsense and darkly funny that becomes uncomfortable. Especially in the useless violence scenes. You really must not emphasize to appreciate it. It benefits from Lanthimos’ ex-post legacy as you can now see this is his first meaningful signature to movies.

I really loved Poor Things, The Favourite, and Bugonia, so I was hoping to enjoy some more of Lanthimos' work. I was pretty disappointed in Dogtooth, which I found quite dull. I don't know why the film was so lauded with praise when it came out, perhaps the incest material was considered so daring, but it really was a let-down compared to his later work.

I absolutely love obscure, weird, and indie thrillers/ psychological films. This film was not only an extreme bore, but relied far too heavily on the disturbing nature of incest. In my honest opinion the is not a horror, thriller, or even an obscure psychological film. It is a a film full of incest, boring setting/scenery, and terrible dialogue. you have to withstand all of this to get to the climax of the film, which is an hour in. There is hardly a plot aside from a disturbed isolated family. I suppose some like it for the reality of it happening, but I only found it strange. Far too graphic in areas that could have been implied. It was so long and boring I even thought about jumping into traffic considering I paid to watch it. If you like a movie that take an hour and 15 mins to get to a relevant point, you’ll love it. Otherwise it’s just an hour of terrible dialogue, gross and weird sex scenes, and boring camera shots (which I assume are supposed to be artistic). Once again, I love obscure, indie, and especially foreign films. I wanted to like Dogtooth so much but I really was bored the whole time.
