When a novelist loses her man to a movie star and former friend, she winds up in a psychiatric hospital. Years later, she returns home to confront the now-married couple, looking radiant. The target of the movie's jokes is female vanity, but since Zemeckis exhibits not a trace of affection for the actresses (or for any of the men, either), one feels humiliated merely watching his crude-spirited wit.

Absolutely wonderful movie. The youngins have a lot to learn from this. Everybody's trying to look younger, but it comes at a cost. Everything comes at a cost. You'd be wise to learn a few things from this.

Cinema’s greatest shovel fight of all time! Death Becomes Her (1992) ***1/2 DEATH BECOMES HER is a delightfully macabre comedy that satirizes aging and vanity with gleeful dark humor, memorable visual effects, and an unforgettable showdown between Meryl Streep and Goldie Hawn. While some of the comedy overstays its welcome, the game cast and Robert Zemeckis’ playful gothic style make this cult favorite an entertaining blast. SEE LETTERBOXED FOR FULL REVIEW

Meryl Streep, Bruce Willis and Goldie Hawn are given some really fun dialogue to work with and they all deliver delicious performances: it looks like they must've had a great time, and you can't help but do too. Hilarious moments abound, and the prosthetics and effects are absolutely top-notch. The finale is slightly overlong and rather underwhelming, Ernest's character arc being particularly unconvincing, but overall it's a mischievous, macabre, laugh-out-loud funny, crafty, memorable film.
