Jaramusch's best work probably in his life. Elgaic, comedic, tragic and intensely political if you want that political lens and all the more powerful for its restraint. Absurd, slapstick and stupid in parts as equal as it is epic and existential. William Blake poetry writ fine indeed. Neil Young's wrenching soundtrack is like electro brain shock therapy. Arrestingly beautiful and equally ugly. Stand out performances from everyone including Mitchum's last ever performance. A trippy hallucinatory journey into the western cannon. A perfect execution from an otherwise hit and miss self-aborbed director. His next nearest was Ghost Dog and this piece eclipses that by a thousand miles.
