Jay F @TheMotionPictureNotion 6d Does it get a bit derivative at points? Yes. Someone finds out something about Damien, they die. Rinse and repeat. There is, however far more to this movie for those who truly give it a chance. The deaths are definitely cranked up to 11 on this one (some actually being quite spooky), but there is also a fleshing out of Damien’s rise to power. We see the inner workings of Thorn industries being steered to prey on the weak and assert control at the hands of some of Damien’s "guardians." It really is a solid middle chapter of what was supposed to be a trilogy, and it does its job quite well, actually. Trying to stack it up against the first film is a fool’s errand, but in its own "rite," Damien: Omen II understands the assignment and delivers the goods! See more Ed . @RT01276001 Aug 29 The Devil Made Me Do It Very few sequels surpass the original (possibly The Godfather II, Star Trek III The Wrath of Kahn, Porkys II). Very many are very inferior (Speed 2, Superman IV, Caddyshack II). This one holds its own fairly well. While it lacks the punch of The Omen simply by being second, it still commands suspense and a strange satisfaction of witnessing the horrors. Having William Holden and Lee Grant star certainly helps. Most critics rate this film to be not as good as the first one, but some, like Vincent Canby of the NY Times, found it more fun to watch. I think my comment above agrees with his take. Meanwhile, Damien is protected by worshipers of the devil and dark forces, killing every enemy that threatens him. Richard takes a long time to believe the information he receives throughout the story and the final devil worshiper is a great twist at the end of the plot. My vote is eight.
