Critics Consensus

A mirthless, fairly desperate family film, Daddy Day Camp relies too heavily on bodily functions for comedic effect, resulting in plenty of cheap gags but no laughs.

An unnecessary and unlovable sequel to the Eddie Murphy vehicle Daddy Day Care, though this time the producers have traded down to Cuba Gooding Jr. Not recommended. Go to Full Review

Jacob B @JB3.0 2d Not that the first film was great, mind you, but Daddy Day Camp isn't quite a cinematic travesty but "merely" a VERY bad family comedy. At its core, I see this as a bunch of child actors getting paid to get up to summer camp mischief. The problem comes more from the fact that it was a DTV film that ended up being theatrically released instead. Had this film not been released in cinemas, it may not have been held up to those standards. Regardless, DDC2 does suck quite a bit. Eddie Murphy's absence is deeply felt with poor Cuba Gooding Jr. embarrassing himself in his attempts to fill in Murphy's shoes. The plot is also much weaker. At least DDC1 had things to say about gender norms. The Colonel was alright, though. Overall, while I do think this is a really bad sequel that devolves into a glorified underdog sports story by the climax, I also fail to see, beyond "where's Eddie Murphy?!" complaints, what makes this so special when compared to other crappy family comedies from the 2000's.
