Why 'All Out' is chosen as title in English is also a bit of a mystery, as it says little or nothing about the plot, an emotionally dramatic dive into the rise and fall of the remarkable artist Rafael Padilla, better known as the clown Chocolate. As one of the first truly successful black artists in French circus, he revolutionized the clown duo act together with his partner Foottit. Padilla however, used his clown character to fight stereotypes and prejudice. He even tried to play Othello as a serious actor, the first ever black, which was unheard of. The artist Padilla found himself struggling to be considered more than just a clown in an age when racist views were in a turmoil, nevertheless with values sadly still existing today. The larger cultural battle is brilliantly presented in this film, the scenography and cinematography is overwhelming, the acting great, and main role actor Omar Sy is formidable. As for Rotten Tomatoes reviews, I absolutely agree with the professional critics. See more 06/04/2020 Well, to speak about the plot, I'd say it's kind of compelling story with good moral sence and real life in it. I like the actors and their behaviour, as actors, not as characters, because it's hard to say you like seeing sad comedy where one person humiliates the other and drown himself in the same swamp. They both are very complicated inside and simplified in the movie where I couldn't find the answers on many questions. Why didn't white clown waste his money? If he saved if, what the purpose was? There is no thing about his sexual orientation but they have raised the question and left it with no explanation. We have nothing about personality development and after all I felt very unsatisfied. I saw the story of a man, who succeeded and found the family but also I saw a sorrow of a person who dead forgotten. I believe it's a good film after all to see how people used to survive and what does it mean to be a clown. The other side. But to tell the truth I wouldn't consider it as my favourite and wouldn't rewatch it to find something deep. There is, but no answers. Putty. It looks really good from the trailer, etc. However, I am unable to find it in the US for streaming and the only DVDs and Blue-Ray copies available are not for US/Canada Region 1 players.
