Jonathan K @NojEsco 08/30/2021 I can't say that I enjoyed this movie very much, but I was very much absorbed by it. It's not like any other Donnie Yen movie I can recall seeing, and it's ESPECIALLY nothing like anything previously done by Wong Jing, whom usually makes (well made) low-brow silly or sleezy movies. This is completely humorless and quite brutal, and doesn't even really have much fun with itself -- it doesn't seem to be made to entertain, but rather to make you feel an intense emotion, and on this level the movie works great. This is perhaps its greatest weakness however - Sometimes movies can fuse an ultra-serious movie with entertainment without compromising the story being told (good example would be 'Black Hawk Down'), while this movie feels more just in the nihilistic and sour grouping alongside things like 'The Shinjuku Incident', having the raw intensity of the ultra-serious events be the sole focus. Personally I did like it more than 'The Shinjuku Incident' and I will probably revisit it from time to time, but it likely won't be in my BluRay player very often. Ce mélange des genres en fait un film incontournable, réalisée par Wong Jing et Jason Kwan. Donnie Yen en baron de la drogue et Andy Lau en flic pourri sont absolument fantastiques et possèdent une alchimie incroyable, élevant alors ce film au rang de probable futur classique du cinéma HK. Extrêmement bien construit, oscillant parfois entre la comédie et le drame, Chasing the Dragon s'appuie sur un supporting cast très compétent et s'articule autour de quelques scènes charnières très réussie, comme le rise to power de Donnie Yen sous le son de Donny Hathaway. See more gareth d @HiGarethDavies 02/24/2018 Good fun, pretty intense but honestly a lot longer than it needed to be, dragged on in places and tried to be a little too artistic, lots of shots of people staring over balconies wistfully smoking etc. Still enjoyable, worth a watch especially if you enjoyed the 90s HK gangster movies. See more 02/01/2018 Honestly one of the best movies I seen I just wished I saw it last year! Donnie Yen proving he a actor not just a martial artist . He does cripple ho so well that I am shocked to see a actor more than just a martial artist . In this movie you meet a man called ho and his brothers from China coming to Hong Kong to make a living. First starts off with them getting a ferry into Hong Kong and then when they get to Hong Kong we see a scene where they are paid to get into gang fights back in the 1960s in Hong Kong was a normal thing. Then he gets arrested and in prision meets Andy Lau character. I not going any further it's just a basic film a man rising to the top. The movie has a a stunning cast of Chinese actors and one of those gangster films to remember indeed. All I will say Donnie Yen acting was superb also it was a movie that wasn't focused on action but a movie focused a a word phrase and it mention multiply times " Life or death, poverty or riches.
