See more Kevin P @RT55971421 Jul 20, 2026 A very endearing sports drama that's mostly famous for its iconic music number during the famous opening scene with the Olympic athletes gracefully running across the beach. But thankfully the rest of the movie is just as charming and exciting to watch. It really holds up as a great British sports movie. There's an infectious kinetic energy during the running practice scenes thanks to the energetic performances and some great cinematography. The movie centers around a great sports rivalry as you care for both of them and you want both to win. Sometimes the pacing is a little slow and the 80's music is dated. The heart of the movie centers around genuine adult fears of passion, life, uncertainty, and identity. Very charming, and I ended up rooting for both of the main Olympic athletes. Some might find it slower paced, but I personally found it to be more laid-back in a dry British sort of way as both main characters try to grapple with what their personal identities outside of running. The scenes in Scotland offer a refreshing change of pace. While some may view it as a stuffy costume drama, the film's unconventional form, refinement, and pitch-perfect performances make it stand out. The ending is particularly sublime, with memorable music that will be remembered for a lifetime.
