Critics Consensus

Candy Cane Lane gets credit for its willingness to get weird, but in most other respects, this Eddie Murphy-led holiday comedy is a dead end.

It does stand out in one area, offering more product placement than any movie in recent memory. It's all very sad. Go to Full Review

Reginald Hudlin’s film is self-aware, but it’s very broad and in trying to do too much achieves little. Go to Full Review

The best scenes have nothing to do with Christmas, such as Chris and Carol expressing their love and support for each other, and the children telling their father that he’s parenting for himself not them. Go to Full Review

Candy Cane Lane feels like a film ripped straight out of the late 90s and early 2000s. I should know, because that’s when I was a kid and watched this exact type of bad live-action comedy on repeat and instantly forgot them until my next viewing. Go to Full Review

This Christmas comedy is oddly boring and has so many sequences that we could’ve done away with. Go to Full Review

Candy Cane Lane lacks emotional resonance, but the simplicity of its message allows it to be solid enough for a Christmas movie. Go to Full Review

Brad N 12/08/2024 I used $5 in rewards to see it. only paid $1.18. Iliked it. See more Ronald Evan T @Draggstar Jan 12 I think it was good a little scary when it includes a evil elf who is a witch and now has to save their family from turning into action figures so definately a thriller mystery but good film with stars like Eddie muprhy, tracee ellis-ross, and more. See more Jay W Dec 30 I have never seen a movie that had such a hard time focusing. The actors were given some liberty to improv jokes. This leads to some scenes going on for way too long. It feels like the writers were also given liberty to go on whatever tangents they wanted to. Which makes the whole thing become disjointed and unfocused. First there's Chris losing his job, then there's the Christmas competition, Carol's promotion, Nick's bad math grades, his music career, Joy's college goals, her Track meet and then there's the main quest to get the golden rings. Despite the life-or-death situation, Chris keeps getting distracted by the dumbest things. This movie is a mess. But it has a crazy energy. The actors look like they are having a good time making this. And it has a handful of good jokes. It's kind of like a candy cane. Not much to it, not good for you, but it is sweet and definitely festive. See more Jessica. S @Jessibaby Dec 29 This movie was Excellent . The plot was unique. I love that. I would definitely recommend it. See more Kowalski @Kowalski Dec 26 Extreme overwokkery. Santa Klaus was white. If you want him black you should find a distinct other historic character and promote him to pop culture icon. See more Fiona G @Princess29 Dec 23 The dad is supposed to come off as funny and charming, but he actually is an annoying, crazy person who won’t leave anyone alone. The plot moves so slowly that I almost aged a year just staring at the TV, waiting for something exciting to happen. It never did. One scene that stood out to me the most was when the dad kept on pulling down these magical decorations that start to move on their own, and they just keep moving around the neighborhood. It’s supposed to be funny, but it keeps dragging on way too long while I sit there asking myself, "Why am I even still watching this?" The acting is flat, and this so-called comedy movie has jokes that are so dry. Overall, Candy Cane Lane is slow, boring, and frustrating. Unlike a holiday treat, watching it feels like a punishment. If you value your time, I’d skip it! Unless you enjoy staring at a screen filled with annoying characters and an endlessly boring plot! See more Read all reviews
