What to Know

Critics Consensus

Bushwick's sociopolitical subtext gives it more heft than the average action thriller, but those ideas are given short shrift in what amounts to a disappointing shoot-'em-up.

The effects are scarcely special, and Bushwick locals will have many bones to pick, but somehow the movie gets to you, with its doomy political soothsaying. Go to Full Review

Delivering knockout action and political punch, this blazing siren of a B movie imagines America at civil war with vicious force. Sequel, please. Go to Full Review

The film works as a hollow tale of "resistance", with less of a stake in the politics of collective action than in the visceral business of individual survival. Go to Full Review

Provides relentless thrills on a scale beyond its small budget. That's impressive, even if the finished product isn't. Go to Full Review

Jonathan Milott and Cary Murnion use an immersive fly on the wall direction style to really heighten the audience's sensation of the anxiety, tension and ferocity of the home front war zone they created. Go to Full Review

Bautista is excellent and Lyle Vincent's clever camerawork means the battle scenes feel ultra-immersive. Go to Full Review

Alexandre B @Ilex7310 2h I'm trying to find something positive about this movie but it's hard to find, badly played , the first 15min I thought it was kids playing war and it turned out the entire movie is about this and worse the main female actress is self commenting her actions ( OMG I can't see anything, OMG I need to run now, OMG someone hurt you badly and I need to help you,...) You learn the main male actor is an an ex-marine but he is out of breath after running 50m?!? The movie is supposedly immersive but in fact repetitive, lacks any story or plot, not going anywhere and not telling anything. Only the end is coherent with the overall pessimistic tone of this movie hence the 1 star. See more Stephen H @RT39776596 02/01/2025 From the outset the acting is wooden, why doesn't anyone pick up guns when they shoot the enemy, John's acting is ok, if the script was better he would have been better, The premise of the movie is good it just doesn't work the way it's been directed. See more Matt B @RT25404390 01/19/2025 Interesting premise if handled adroitly, unfortunately the script is barely believable in terms of human reactions (sees a man on fire... decides to just run away despite no implied threat to self.. in first 3 minutes of film). Acting is not fantastic from the female leads. John does a good job. Soundtrack, while I love aesop rock, doesnt suit the genre nor the film. See more Korra N @RT88131552 12/02/2024 This is what the Red Dawn remake should've been. See more Feasible T @RT30166679 11/26/2024 The movie started well, and maintained it's pace for the first 10 or so minutes. However when it would be natural for the pace to pick up, it slowed down and vice versa. The main characters have potential that is never really explored in any depth, and all side characters are there to either die, or be randomly violent. It is clear what the point of the movie was, with an obvious message that any life is expendable. But the message falls flat. The plot doesn't draw you in, the action doesn't scratch an itch, and overall it fails at being an action movie an a drama. It was just entertaining enough for me to say "wow that was bad" as the credits rolled and not half way through. See more Dallas N @RT94460199 11/20/2024 Caught it recently on streaming. Had never heard of it so I had no expectations, but thought it was a decent action romp. Brittany Snow got to display some dramatic chops, and Dave Bautista was capable in his role. If you like survival/post-apocalyptic themed movies this might be worth checking out. See more Read all reviews
