Brandur L @fyrerise 2 days ago I somehow waited until 2026 to watch this, but wow, what a masterpiece. A bit of a slow burn, but builds to a perfect crescendo by the end. Well written and well acted. See more Chris B @Papa13070 Aug 11, 2026 With the masterful Steven Spielberg behind the lens, this movie was destined to be amazing. Tom Hanks gave an incredible performance as the non-fictional character, James B. Donovan. I really enjoyed this film because of that aspect; that it really happened. It was such an eye opening film to a true story I never really knew about it. Hanks was an extremely powerful and convincing lawyer and it was very interesting to see how his mind worked when it came to dealing with the character Rudolf Abel, played by Mark Rylance. Rylance also delivered a wonderful performance. Overall, this film was an interesting insight to events during the Cold War and a story that definitely needed to be told. The lighting, the shadows, that color palette - everything had this calm yet tense atmosphere that made every frame feel mesmerizing. Such a classy and beautifully crafted film. The idea that all people deserve rights and legal representation is more relevant than ever before. The direction is immaculately crafted with beautiful long panning shots and careful visual storytelling. We witness U.S., Russian, and German diplomacy during the Cold War. The Coen Brothers wrote a very thoughtful and fair script that depicts all countries honestly, while also entertaining the audience with jokes and knowledge. Tom Hanks and Mark Rylance lead the charge with their complex portrayals of historical figures Donovan and Abel. Hanks plays it straight with some humor to humanize his lawyer. He captures Donovan's dedication to the law, justice, and decency. Meanwhile, Rylance plays Abel with a cold poker face and a knowing somber tone. In all, Bridge of Spies is an important movie for Spielberg to recount a moment in history. See more Read all reviews
