Critics Consensus

Jennifer Lopez admirably does her best to shoulder Atlas' seismic scope, but this sci-fi spectacle buckles under the weight of a script whose intelligence is merely artificial.

A narrative -- and much imagery, too -- that's built on much better movies. Go to Full Review

It’s like if Marvel made a whole movie with Tony Stark inside his armour just talking to Jarvis, but without any witty repartee. Go to Full Review

J. Lo may be fighting for the very existence of the human race, but there’s nothing at stake between you and the screen. Go to Full Review

Atlas is a film that delivers the standard, familiar dose of action typical of Netflix’s catalogue. Entertaining, but lacking in originality. [Full Review in Spanish] Go to Full Review

Atlas is predictable which can be seen as a good and a bad thing. I’m not going to rewatch it incessantly like some of my other favorite sci-fi flicks and you’re most likely not going to either. Go to Full Review

Atlas is a passable science fiction adventure. It will not offend, but it also will not be dedicated any time in the cultural consciousness. Go to Full Review

Jason D @DELTONDO 4d I thought the movie was great and the acting was great See more Aiden B @aidenball002 Jan 10 I don’t get the hate for this movie. It’s not perfect in terms of the writing but it’s a visually stunning and entertaining sci-fi adventure with lots of action and drama with a little bit of comedy. I don’t even really like Jlo all that much but I do think that shes a good actress and very charismatic. See more William S @Wnsiii Jan 8 Granted, the movie has some major plot holes. Atlas seems invincible when she shouldn’t be, but for some reason, I still found the movie very entertaining and fun to watch. Her evolving relationship with Smith was engaging. I guess I was able to overlook some of the issues that other people weren’t. See more Justin P @jdxhero Jan 4 I think the story had potential, but the combat is just impossible. The robots take out countless amounts of marines. Somehow, they just can't beat her. She's an annalist. Her mech is near invincible at times. It makes little sense. Then when she is fighting this one robot, she tries destroying it with her mech physically, but somehow can't damage it. Gets knocked out the mech and then she kills it by hand? BY HAND? How is she stronger than the mech? The power balance is all over the place. She might as well be a super hero by the end. Side note, but needless cursing for humor. Not even military related either. Again, makes little sense. See more Duane A @AMischief Dec 30 Not sure if it's Jennifer Lopez's or the character she plays but Atlas comes across as an annoyingly whiny character that is almost unwatchable See more Yen J @Japney Dec 25 honestly don’t understand the low ratings on this one. Atlas was easy to watch, genuinely entertaining, and had a subtle sense of humor that made it more enjoyable than I expected. Jennifer Lopez did a solid job in a role that felt both grounded and futuristic, and the storyline kept me interested throughout. It almost was like a feel good movie. It’s not trying to be overly complicated or too deep and that’s actually what I liked about it. Sometimes you just want a good, straightforward sci-fi with heart, action, and a few unexpected laughs. I’d definitely watch it again. I’d love for it to have part 2!! See more Read all reviews
