Some of the evil magic is gone as this trilogy capper dispenses with most of the scares, but Bruce Campbell's hammy charm and Sam Raimi's homage to classic visual effects make for a fun enough adventure.

Replete with thumping horse hooves, the battle cries of lusty men and the banshee screams of the living dead, Raimi's movie comes at you with a noisy, jokey swagger. Its hero even says "groovy" and gets away with it.

Here's the problem: Bruce Campbell's character is a complete stiff, and so is everyone else he meets who isn't a special effect. The result is that we couldn't care less who wins any battle in the movie no matter how inventively photographed.

Army of Darkness is a goofy and fun film that actually follows a somewhat congruent story. This film has a lot of comedy in it and is definitely interesting, but just like the previous films, it drags on a little longer than needed. If this was a little bit shorter or some of the unnecessary scenes were cut out, this would possibly be a higher-rated film. Although this film has a drag to it, there is definitely some fun to be had.
