Jeff W @RT11229988 3 hrs ago At the start, the viewers know something about a tragic accident that Charlize does not know. When that happens in story, there needs to be a reason and it needs to be explored. It is not. Act 2 starts with a 'The Most Dangerous Game' setup but it is abandoned and replaced with a tortured captive type deal. Yo, filmmakers - pick one or the other, you can't do both because it doesn't make sense. Kill or capture? Make your mind. Charlize is a thrill seeker who makes a lot of stupid decisions. The danger she puts herself in with baddie Taron was entirely preventable. I kept thinking, even if she escapes this guy, she'll find another way to do herself in. At the end, she had every opportunity to eliminate the threat to her, but instead engaged in a senseless, dangerous act to accomplish this. There are a lot of genuine thrills and the cinematography and direction is sublime. Charlize is exquisite, as always, and this may be Taron's best performance - but too many problems to recommend. See more Locus P @Locus 2 days ago It's basically Wolf Creek in the rainforest. 1 star for The incredible scenery & directing that really showed it off. 1 star for Theron and her althetic manoeveres through said scenery. 1 star for Egerton's energetic portrayal of the killer. I never got pulled in throughout the movie. It was just like watching a woman who is a hollywood actor dropped into an Australian landscape. Never felt real. Didn't make sense she went from being the reason her husband died on the mountain to continuing down that reckless track. Both she and the serial killer sorely needed developing. I’m sick of this familiar trope. This is yet another Netflix propaganda film where the message is "women are badass and all men are either weak losers, rude toothless louts or homicidal predators." Theron isn’t believable as an experienced adventurer; looking skeletal and more like the underwear model and less like an athlete, she consistently makes the wrong choices and acts like a rude witch most of the time yet somehow we are supposed to relate to her and root for her.
