People were forced to leave Earth a millennium ago to establish a new home on Nova Prime. Now, Gen. Cypher Raige (Will Smith) heads Nova Prime's most-prominent family. Cypher's teenage son, Kitai (Jaden Smith), feels enormous pressure to follow in his father's legendary footsteps -- which strains their relationship. I tried to enjoy this movie; I wanted to enjoy this movie. I did not. I like most of Will Smith’s movies and M. Night Shyamalan usually directs well. This movie looks ok, but the plot is meh. However, what really drags this movie down is the acting. Sometimes the apple falls miles from the tree and sometimes it’s in a different galaxy. The kid should consider a different career. I was mostly bored with this.

Could have been alright based on the plot. Bit then Will and Jayden Smith putting in one of the most irritating performances in history. Most of the film Will over acting as some captain come super strict dad giving his son useless monotone instructions and then Jayden running around all over the place hyperventilating when he hears from so little as a mouse fart so just a load of shouting and winging in summary.

I really enjoyed this movie, the plot, the complex relationships, the intensity, and all the sci-fi aspects! It was a unique action movie that was not afraid to portray emotions, even uncomfortable ones. Jaden Smith did a wonderful job portraying a conflicted youth that found himself as he fought for the life of his father and himself. This was a thinking man's sci-fi movie that kept me on the edge of my seat! And of course, Will Smith was solid! Kudos to writers, cast, and crew!!
