I'm not at all sure that, in manipulating the audience to make his points, Haneke isn't as guilty of exploitation as the filmmakers and the films he's attacking here.

Funny Games isn't meant to echo reality. Most of the incidents that transpire are "plausible," to borrow Paul's word, even if he and Peter aren't intended to resemble actual human beings, and Haneke doesn't burden the characters with a back story.

Don’t think of Haneke’s picture as a thriller, bound by typical thriller tropes, complete with an exciting thriller climax and gratifying conclusion. Think of it as an experiment to show you how Hollywood cinema has manipulated your expectations

Michael Haneke‘s Funny Games finds little humor in the horror it unleashes on the unsuspecting Farber Family. A game to shock and horrify, this is not a film with a happy ending, but rather a terrifying understanding of the continuing cycle of violence.

What a TERRIBLE movie. The mother and father were utterly useless from start to finish. I am embarrassed for both of them. And then, some 1.5 hours in you think Finally!, but nope, the remote control comes out. WHAT?!

This is not a good movie. It was made by a hack director that doesn’t know anything about film or the art of creating movies in entertainment. Anything this director or anyone involved has been tainted by their choices in what they think is good and they won’t be taken seriously. I don’t think this director should continue in this path, it’s not for them, they should look for a different career.

Nothing new here except (spoiler alert) one of the most ridiculous endings to a movie I have ever witnessed. It made no sense and was not in line with the rest of the film. Ruined it. Movie went from somewhat interesting to what a waste of time.
