The last members of a dying Native American tribe, the Mohicans -- Uncas, his father Chingachgook, and his adopted half-white brother Hawkeye -- live in peace alongside British colonists. But when the daughters of a British colonel are kidnapped by a traitorous scout, Hawkeye and Uncas must rescue them in the crossfire of a gruesome military conflict of which they wanted no part: the French and Indian War.

The most interesting film of Michael Mann’s in that it doesn’t seem to fit with the rest of his filmography. However, he does an incredible job crafting a visually arresting and seemingly sprawling epic that still comes in under 2 hours. Always found it funny that a movie with such an epic feel and story didn’t even warrant the runtime of 2006’s Miami Vice.

It's beautiful and has a soundtrack that stays with you. Daniel Day-Lewis keeps the romance and the fights alive - but the ending is so weird and corny to me on those cliffs.

From that iconic opening score to the ending credits, The Last of the Mohicans is a wild ride full of drama, beautiful landscapes, and honed in acting, especially by a brilliant Daniel Day Lewis. I enjoy this movie thoroughly, and its ending monologue is important to remember in today’s age.

Synopsis
