Mercy
(2026)
|
Adam Olinger
|
Mercy is the next entry in the War of the Worlds 2025 Cinematic Universe, in the sense that you are wasting 90 minutes of your life watching a dude in a chair react to things. I can witness that for free on YouTube.

28 Years Later: The Bone Temple

The Bone Temple won me over where the previous entry didn't. This new entry ups the brutality and the twisted humor. For those of you yearning for more Alpha Samson meat, this time around, you get a buffets-worth.

I thought about getting my 3D glasses checked because there were a lot of moments in this movie that looked exactly like the last two films. I'm ready to get off this ride.

The Housemaid
(2025)
|
Adam Olinger
|
The Housemaid is trashy, ridiculous and damn entertaining. Amanda Seyfried knows exactly what type of film this is and owns her role. I wish I could say the same for Sydney Sweeney, who sleepwalks from scene to scene, adding nothing to the production.

Silent Night, Deadly Night can't decide if it's a buddy roadtrip Venom movie, a disturbing Dexter thriller or a campy Hallmark love story. It never figures it out.

It's too serious to be fun. It's too stupid to be smart. It's too long to be watched. Primitive War is a primitive chore to get through but I did get a few laughs along the way. Just not for the reasons it probably wanted.

I'm not mad at Edgar Wright, I'm just disappointed. The Running Man is a perfectly fine, entertaining film but I expect more from this director. Audiences will have a good time but don't expect the same level of craft, music and comedy Wright is known for

"Baahubali: The Epic" is the result of mixing a Disney musical with The Lord of the Rings. Believe me when I say, that's a great thing! The film is a powerful beast with plenty of spectacle, emotional moments and heart. Indian cinema at its finest!

"Christy" lands more punches than it misses. Some choppy editing and some subplots that go unresolved can be overlooked. Sydney Sweeney gives a strong performance in a true story that's both heartbreaking and inspiring.

Roofman feels nostalgic in a few different ways. Not only do we get transported back to a time when Blockbuster video and Toys R Us were a big thing but the film itself just has a classic feel to it. When movies felt less manufactured and empty.

Good Boy has an interesting gimmick. A dog has the Haley Joel Osment ability to see dead people. I wouldn't say it's the most exciting film but it's very pretty, has a very short runtime and the dog is fantastic. Air Bud finally has some competition!

The Strangers: Chapter 2

The dumb continues with The Strangers: Chapter 2. Most of the 90 minutes is spent watching the lead protagonist hide behind things, while you fight for your life to stay awake. Nothing happens so of course the stupid movie ends with a "To be Continued".

One Battle After Another is a clever, often satirical film. It won't turn you into a radicalized Antifa member, as some bad-faith critics will have you believe. In fact, it does the opposite. The film is sharp, bold and sadly, timeless.

The Long Walk

The Long Walk is a grim, bleak look at a fallen America. People are broke. Spirits are in the toilet and the government patrols the city streets. No, this is not based on a true story but it feels like it could be. An intense, well-acted film.
