Jason Adams

Tomatometer-approved critic
Biography:

Jason knew the movies were his bag the second he saw that lawyer sitting on a toilet getting eaten by a Tyrannosaur, and he's never looked back once since. Simultaneously a movie snob who watches Fassbinder for fun while also being a trash apologist prone to reenacting the death scenes in the Friday the 13th series through vivid pantomime, he's got room for everything projected onto a big screen in his big roomy heart. He's been covering the daily beat on his site My New Plaid Pants since 2005 and is a regular contributor to The Film Experience. He's a member of GALECA: The Society of LGBTQ Entertainment Critics, and has been accredited to cover basically every New York City based film festival for the past ten years including NYFF and Tribeca. Movies TV Shows
Infirmary (2026) EDIT “Perada hits his marks -- the scares are real! -- and in return I jumped and made all of the requisite "Hell no" noises that you hope to make while watching these movies, as the characters stumble deeper into the awful, awful dark. Solid spooky business!” – My New Plaid Pants Jan 17, 2026 Full Review A Useful Ghost (2025) 86% EDIT “Visually this movie is a feast, existing in its own vacuum-sealed weirdo world of wonder.” – My New Plaid Pants Jan 17, 2026 Full Review 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple (2026) 93% EDIT “It dances on the grave of nihilism and this film really considers, with decency and love, what real survival in this terrible world could and should mean... The Bone Temple is truly an Empire Strikes Back or a Godfather Part II level sequel.” – Pajiba Jan 16, 2026 Full Review Primate (2025) 79% EDIT “Primate is a mean movie. Viciously cruel. And its wildly over-the-top violence ...being inflicted onto characters that are paper-thin ciphers just becomes wholly unpleasant to watch.” – My New Plaid Pants Jan 9, 2026 Full Review Marty Supreme (2025) 93% EDIT “Safdie's master-class in inexhaustible cinematic anxiousness... Chalamet unspools the performance of his career-to-date here. It's pretty much whatever the ping-pong equivalent of a slam dunk would be.” – Pajiba Dec 23, 2025 Full Review Dust Bunny (2025) 85% EDIT “Delight incarnate -- a rascally fable of huge, fuzzy, hungry heart and teeth and soul” – Pajiba Dec 16, 2025 Full Review Avatar: Fire and Ash (2025) 66% EDIT “Disastrously boring and redundant... the entire story of Fire and Ash is been there, done that two times already, was sorta bored the second time so there's no excuse to be doing this all yet again, dude.” – My New Plaid Pants Dec 16, 2025 Full Review Five Nights at Freddy's 2 (2025) 16% EDIT “So absurdly tedious, so deathly dull, so flat and ugly and boring and offensively dumb, I refuse to believe there's even anybody standing behind the camera.” – My New Plaid Pants Dec 5, 2025 Full Review Shell (2024) 63% EDIT “When a movie basically reenacts the last scene of John Waters' Multiple Maniancs with what must have been millions more dollars I still have to hand it some slow clap.” – My New Plaid Pants Dec 2, 2025 Full Review Train Dreams (2025) 95% EDIT “It's got the appearance of meaning that reveals itself to be thimble-deep, like a video of somebody diving into a gorgeous lake only to break their neck on the rocks mere inches beneath its serence surface. ” – My New Plaid Pants Nov 21, 2025 Full Review Wicked: For Good (2025) 66% EDIT “Humorless, tuneless, meandering flying-monkey malarkey... In a better world people would be embarrassed.” – My New Plaid Pants Nov 21, 2025 Full Review No Other Choice (2025) 97% EDIT “Park Chan-wook’s latest maniacal triumph, the darkly comic capitalism satire No Other Choice, which sees the forest for the trees and diagnoses us all chainsaws.” – Pajiba Oct 29, 2025 Full Review Father Mother Sister Brother (2025) 81% EDIT “This is a sly and sweet rumination on the unfamiliarity of family... one of Jarmusch’s best and wisest films” – Pajiba Oct 24, 2025 Full Review Bugonia (2025) 88% EDIT “Another masterclass in misanthropy from our finest purveyor of the stuff” – Pajiba Oct 23, 2025 Full Review Buffet Infinity (2025) EDIT “Some adventurous cinematic nonsense of the highest and finest order ... a Sloppy Joe satire force-fed to us in colorful and hilarious thirty second bursts that make the medicine go down, down, down, until we’re all happily gagging on it. ” – Pajiba Oct 22, 2025 Full Review Black Phone 2 (2025) 72% EDIT “Call it "Won't somebody answer the goddamned phone???": The Movie. ” – My New Plaid Pants Oct 16, 2025 Full Review Swan Song (2021) 92% EDIT “Swan Song, for all its Camp factor, mines genuine pathos, especially in Kier's tenderly low-key but dryly hysterical turn” – My New Plaid Pants Oct 14, 2025 Full Review Dracula (2025) 66% EDIT “As madcap and mind-blowing as anything this delightfully deranged director’s put on-screen in the past... his Dracula movie ain’t your grandpa’s Francis Ford Coppola adaptation, that’s for sure... It’s daring, provocative, poke-you-in-the-eye punk shit. ” – Pajiba Oct 8, 2025 Full Review Kontinental '25 (2025) 95% EDIT “Radu Jude, the international iconoclast firing on all cylinders... agonizing comedy” – Pajiba Oct 8, 2025 Full Review Peter Hujar's Day (2025) 92% EDIT “We’re gifted with 76 minutes of the mellifluous tones of Ben Whishaw speaking and the rapturous visions of Rebecca Hall listening.” – Pajiba Oct 6, 2025 Full Review After the Hunt (2025) 37% EDIT “Pitched somewhere between Nancy Meyers and Pasolini, After the Hunt wants to poke at you with swords swathed in cashmere in that way only Guadagnino can muster. It’s to my eye another stylish, sticky success from the maestro of comfortable discomfort” – Pajiba Oct 3, 2025 Full Review Pillion (2025) 100% EDIT “Tender as the gentle brush of a flogger down the backside, writer-director Harry Lighton’s Pillion is the sweetest, hottest master-servant romance we’re been served in decades... Pillion makes ecstatic bottoms of us all.” – Pajiba Oct 2, 2025 Full Review One Battle After Another (2025) 94% A EDIT “The movie of the year... If this isn’t what defines a masterpiece then we should just start burning the dictionaries... if your drug of choice is Movies, then One Battle After Another will have you high as hell. Heavenly as that.” – Pajiba Sep 24, 2025 Full Review The History of Sound (2025) 70% EDIT “The History of Sound wants to immerse us in just such teleportations from the past—it is asking us to see sound, hear color. To close our eyes and recall frequencies that were never captured in their time. ” – Pajiba Sep 11, 2025 Full Review Rabbit Trap (2025) 42% EDIT “Eerie slowburn folk horror” – Pajiba Sep 10, 2025 Full Review
